Saturday Night in Denver with Cinestill 800T Film Stock
This is a continuation of the Saturday Night in Denver blog post but these images were taken with my Minolta X-700 using my 35mm f/2.8 and 50mm f/1.4 lenses and 800Tungsten Xpro C-41 Color Negative Film. This film stock is ASA 800 so for the most part it was probably going to be too dark so I decided to push the film one stop to ASA 1600. I’ve heard you can push this 2 stops, but decided to play is safe. I did end up with some images that were too dark.
Some of the images where there was bright lighting but had subjects in the dark, it wasn’t very good for recovering shadow detail without adding a lot of grain to the image. The film stock for the most part came out with a really nice fine grain.
The most interesting aspect of this film stock, since it was developed from cinema stock film for movies, is that the Tungsten really brings out the reds and greens and the lights especially with some red will halo in a unique fashion. I decided to give many of my images a 16X9 crop to give it a more cinematic feel. I quite enjoy this stock and may try to push it 2 stops next time.
Here’s the gallery of images, mostly from downtown Denver, but had to finish off the roll of film in the Highlands district of Denver when I met some friends the next evening for dinner at the Blue Pan (excellent Detroit style pan pizza).
